Baraka (г. Рига, Латвия) исполняет уникальную музыку, соединяющую в себе изысканный джаз, современные методы звукозаписи и электронику с памирским и персидским фольклором. Альбомы рижан звучат современно и актуально, в них можно услышать европейские джазовые импровизации, восточные ритмы, разнообразную перкуссию и рэп. При этом работы коллектива сохраняют глубину, настроение и одухотворённость древней среднеазиатской музыки, соединяющей мудрость веков, медитативность и чувственность.

Новый альбом Baraka «SAMO Remix» – ремикс, студийная обработка оригинального материала памирской группы SAMO («Само»). История создания альбома началась во время очередной поездки лидера группы Дмитрия Евсикова в Таджикистан в 2015 году. Тогда на Памире для музыкантов коллектива Baraka устроили домашний концерт группы SAMO, после которого Дмитрию подарили диск. Он обещал дать музыкальный ответ на услышанное, и сдержал слово – записал коллекцию ремиксов, европеизированных версий полюбившейся Baraka музыки из диска «SAMO», но максимально сохраняющих дух оригинала.
У группы Baraka - большой опыт работы с памирской музыкой. На счету коллектива несколько блестящих альбомов, приближающих традиционную музыку Средней Азии к современному европейскому звуку. Ремиксы SAMO выполнены музыкантами Baraka в стиле lounge, ethno-jazz. Как и в своих прежних работах, коллектив умело совмещает импровизации и электронные ритмы с оргинальным памирским вокалом и рэп-партиям.

Дмитрий Евсиков: «Мы решили оставить оригинальную вокальную линию в большинстве ремиксов целиком. По возможности не резать вокал на части, чтобы даже в новых аранжировках носители языка могли услышать суфийское послание идущее через века».

В работе над альбом в состав команды, кроме виртуозного перкуссиониста Дмитрия Евсикова (mridangam, ghatam, darbuka, tabla, congo, bongo) вошли: его дочь, вокалистка Девика Евсикова (chapman stick, fretless bass, бас); Виктор Рытов, Артём Саври (rhodes piano); Егор Ковайков (гитара, badakshani setor); Артур Кутепов (гитара); Денис Пашкевич (тенор-саксофон); Райво Сташанс (сопрано-саксофон); Mister Ruslan, Imomdod Orifov, Alijon Boynazarov (рэп).
Дмитрий Евсиков: «На альбоме звучит суфийская музыка горного Бадахшана, это Памир. Соответственно мы позвали тех реперов, кто в теме, то есть тоже памирцев».

Звук на альбоме прозрачен и свеж - все инструменты писались с использованием аналоговых устройств. Среди инструментов, задействованных в записи, выделяется недавно освоенный Девикой Евсивковой Chapman stick bass. Композиция «Four Minors» сыграна исключительно на этом уникальном инструменте.

SAMO («Само») переводится как «небо». Группа музыкантов с памирскими корнями существует с сентября 2006 г. Базируется в Музее Гурминджа в г. Душанбе, где выставлены музыкальные инструменты, действует репетиционная база и имеется студия звукозаписи. «Само» много раз выступали в Музее Гурминджа и на других площадках, гастролировали в Германии (2008), США (2009).

SAMO исполняют древнюю суфийскую музыку Памира, в её основе тексты персидских классиков Руми, Хафиза, Шерази, Хаяма. Темы композиций - духовные поиски, причем рассказ идёт иносказательно, символически. Это творчество религиозно-мистическое, и музыканты, и слушатели во время концерта погружаются в состояние, близкое к трансу.

Baraka from Riga in the Baltic country of Latvia perform the unique music that bridges the refined jazz and electronic sound with the traditional music of Pamir and Persia. The Riga musicians’ recordings embrace European jazz improvisations, Oriental rhythms, a variety of World Music percussion, and rap elements. This unlikely mix is surprisingly deep, moody and spiritual, borrowing these qualities from the genuine source of the ancient Middle Asian tradition with its meditative wisdom of the ages.

The new album of Baraka called «SAMO Remix» is the studio mixing of the original traditional material of SAMO, a group from the Pamir Mountains. It was recorded by Baraka leader Dmitry Yevsikov on his trip to Tajikistan in 2015. There, he heard SAMO playing a home concert for him and Baraka, was given a CD with SAMO music, and made a promise to reply to it. SAMO Remix is the reply, the tribute that is Europeanized but aims to preserve the original spirit of the Pamir.

Baraka has been interpreting Pamir tradition for years. Musicians had recorded several albums that bring together Central Asian traditional music and modern European sound. SAMO Remix employs lounge and ethno jazz to make a fusion of improvisation and electronics with the original Pamir vocals and rap incrustations.

Dmitry Yevsikov says: We decided to preserve the original vocal line in most compositions in its entirety. If possible, not to cut vocals into bits, so that even in the new arrangement those who speak the language could hear the Sufi message that comes through the ages.

The Baraka team who created SAMO Remix, apart from Dmitry Yevsikov (a skilled percussionist employing mridangam, ghatam, darbuka, tabla, congo, bongo) were Devika Yevsikova, his daughter, contributing vocals, Chapman stick, fretless bass, and bass guitar; Viktor Rytov and Artem Savry on Rhodes piano; Yegor Kovaykov on guitar and badakshani setor; Artur Kutepov on guitar; Denis Pashkevich on tenor saxophone; Raivo Stasans on soprano saxophone; as well as papping from Mister Ruslan, Imomdod Orifov, and Alijon Boynazarov.

Dmitry Yevsikov says: In this album, we included the Sufi music of Badakhshan highlands, in the Pamir Mountains. This made us invite the rappers who understand this tradition, i.e. they are people from the Pamir as well.
The sound in this album is ambient and fresh, as all the instruments were recorded in analog recording devices. Among the instruments there is a notable addition, the Chapman stick bass that Devika Yevsikova took up. «Four Minors» track has her playing this unique instrument alone.

SAMO means “sky”. The group of musicians descending from the Pamir, they started playing together in 2006. Their permanent base is Gurminj Museum of Musical Instruments in the city of Dushanbe, Tajikistan. There, instruments are on display, their rehearsals are held, and recordings are done. SAMO perform in the museum and at other venues. They toured in Germany in 2008 and in the USA in 2009.
SAMO perform the ancient music of the Pamir, based on the verse of the classical Persian poets: Rumi, Hafiz, Sherazi, and Khayyam. Their lyrics’ topic is often the spiritual path, described in metaphors and symbols. Their performance is mystic and both musicians and the audience might slip into a trance-like state during the live performance.
